So I'll be the first to admit this... I am a registered Republican and WAS for the war... support the troops... support our president... bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.
Than something happend... it's what happens to me on most subjects. Even IF I follow blindly, it's only for a short time. Then something very interesting happens... something that I think Amercians need to learn to do more... I ask questions.
You see it's one thing to be behind something that's obvious, even if it's only obvious for a short while. But unless you ask questions... you end up following blindly, forever. That sounds more like most religions on this planet than politics, but that seems to be the formula that works well for both.
I just finished watching the final season ending episode of Real Time with Bill Maher (a show I loved to watch when I lived in the US and now have to download it since there is no other way to get it over seas). I love this show, it's really something to watch. I would compare it to the Daily Show with Jon Stewart but Bill Maher has the advantage of doing this on HBO and therefore can say things... with out the very annoying censors beeping everything out.
So I hear the Democrats just backed down from trying to force our President on coming up with a deadline... well... all I have to say to that is... shame on you. If I hear another bad thing about the war or Bush from a Democrat Senator/Representative the first question out of my mouth will be "Did you vote for this bill or against it?"
An interesting theory came out of this show (from guest Ben Afflick of all people). He said that basically Democrats were afraid of being called pussies... hmmm.... how to the point you are Ben. I might not like you as an actor (ok ok, I actually liked Paycheck and Daredevil) but you area man of few words, and those words make sense.
Right now my front runner for the '08 Election is Barack Obama... he's young, energetic, and a good speaker. He also voted against allowing the President more money without a deadline (yes I'll give Hillary credit for also voting against this). Now I'm still waiting for the Republicans to pull something out of their ass that resembles a candidate. I expect Al Gore to run within the next 6 months as well, and then the Republicans are really screwed. Oh well... looks like I'll be voting outside party lines in '08.
Until then though... would someone please stand up and say that they are the biggest supporters of our troops by sending the STRAIGHT home!!! How else can someone support our troops unless we see them home ALIVE, that's the best support they can get!
